Do you have a toddler who loves the water? Just because the weather outside is cold doesn’t mean you still can’t have some fun in the water with your little one. In the area of McKinney, Texas, you’ll find several places you can take your little busybody for some indoor swimming.

Swim Lessons at Pyramids Hotel

If you’re interested in some swim lessons for your sweetie pie, Infant Aquatics (infantaquatics.com) may be able to help. Cindy Clark, of AquaTykes (www.aquatykestx.com), is a certified swimming teacher that conducts classes just 15 minutes from McKinney in Allen. If you sign your little one up for one of these classes, it will take place in Pyramids Hotel’s indoor heated pool.

Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium

Also just 15 minutes away in Allen, you’ll find the Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium (no website, 110 E. Rivercrest, Allen; 214-509-4770), maintained by the City of Allen Parks and Recreation Department (cityofallen.org). You could take your little man to one of the open swim times. Inside you’ll find a lap pool, lazy river and separate water play area for little ones. He can splash around and play with all of the interactive water features.

The Colony Aquatics

The Colony, City by the Lake, is just a 26-minute drive from McKinney. The Colony Parks and Recreation Department (ci.the-colony.tx.us) has an Aquatics Park (no website; 5580 North Colony Blvd., The Colony; 972-624-2225). Inside of this park there is a heated indoor pool that is open year-round. Public swim times are available during limited windows during the school year. You can sign your little princess up for some private swim lessons at the Aquatic Park as well.

Frisco Athletic Center

Make the short 26-minute drive to the Frisco Athletic Center (friscofun.org) in Frisco. This 100,000-square-foot center has an outdoor and indoor aquatic center. Take your little tyke for a day of water play. The shallow water children’s area has slides, a tunnel to crawl through and all sorts of water play activities to keep him busy. There is also a warm water activity pool and current channel with vortex.

Oak Point Recreation Center

Take your kiddo for a visit to the Oak Point Recreation Center (no website; 6000 Jupiter Road, Plano; 972-941-7540), just 21 miles from McKinney, in Plano. This center has an a beach-entry indoor pool with a water slide and a shallow water children’s area, complete with tumble buckets for the little guys
